Since 2008, Tamaki Mt Wellington has become a part of the global movement to fight poverty and injustice in the world. We are providing financial support to a child in East Africa and a community in Asia.

To this date, we have successfully raised over $1000!

But this year we are aiming to double that amount so that more of the impossible can be achieved.

How can you help?

__________________________________________________________________________

Our first child sponsor is a young girl living in one of the slums situated in Nairobi, Kenya. Roseline Achando lives with her parents, brother and sister. Her family, like many others in the area, are poor and cannot cater for the family effectively. Her father is unemployed and relies on small manual jobs from factories while her mother is a housewife taking care of the children. With the lack of income, Roseline and her sibling’s basic needs of education, health, food, and security cannot be satisfied.

But through Child Fund, the organisation that has enabled us to connect with Roseline, and the Mukuru Promotion Centre, the place where Roseline receives benefits (health-care, food etc) from our contribution, we have been able to change her situation contributing to re-shaping and building a solid foundation for her life.

Starting 2010 – we now sponsor a community in Asia.

More information coming shortly.

Our ITFNZ organisation is assisting in re-building a village in Papua New Guinea.

We donated our hall for use for the PNG fundraisers.

Please go to our national website for further information on how you can contribute to this cause: www.itfnz.org.nz

Training Times: Sunday 10:00am – 11:30am

Beginners welcome!

Come and try Kempo for a FREE four week trial! It doesn’t matter whether you are a beginner, or have done a bit before. The classes have been carefully structured to provide a safe and enjoyable atmosphere of all three (beginner, intermediate & advanced) levels.

What is Kempo?

Kempo is one of the oldest Martial Arts systems and is based upon the survival and fighting techniques of five Animals. Those techniques are…

-Tiger : Power

-Crane : Sinew

-Leopard : Strength/Bone

-Snake : Ch’i

-Dragon : Spirit

Each technique has three main functions…

-Self Defense

-Internal Energy Cultivation

-Training the Body and Mind

Who will I be learning from?

The classes are instructed by Mr Lo who has been performing Kempo Kido Karate for at least 10 years. He learnt under Mr Gibbs and wants to give back to the community that supported him in his teenage years.

Monthly Kempo classes are $20 per month or $35 for 2 or more family members. Members of the Tamaki ITF club are entitled to free lessons. If you’re interested come down and talk to us, everyone is welcome!

“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go” – TS Eliot

Welcome Back!

A big thank you to all the students and parents for a great 2009 year!

This year will be one of our biggest years yet! We will be celebrating our 5th Year Anniversary at the end of the year and we will be kick starting this year with The Tamaki Cup Challenge – a new intra-club competition that will take place once every month to compete for the Tamaki Cup – congratulations to those students selected as Team captains. Also, we will see seven of our black stripes training hard over the next few months for their upcoming black belt grading in May.

Get ready Tamaki for another year of gradings, tournaments, seminars and community events!!
