“I shall be a champion of freedom and justice, to build a more peaceful world” – Student Oath

Since 2008, Tamaki Mt Wellington has become a part of the global movement to fight poverty and injustice in the world.  We are providing financial support to a child in East Africa and a community in Asia.

To this date, we have successfully raised over $1000!

But this year we are aiming to double that amount so that more of the impossible can be achieved.

How can you help?

__________________________________________________________________________

Our first child sponsor is a young girl living in one of the slums situated in Nairobi, KenyaRoseline Achando lives with her parents, brother and sister.  Her family, like many others in the area, are poor and cannot cater for the family effectively.  Her father is unemployed and relies on small manual jobs from factories while her mother is a housewife taking care of the children.  With the lack of income, Roseline and her sibling’s basic needs of education, health, food, and security cannot be satisfied.

But through Child Fund, the organisation that has enabled us to connect with Roseline, and the Mukuru Promotion Centre, the place where Roseline receives benefits (health-care, food etc) from our contribution, we have been able to change her situation contributing to re-shaping and building a solid foundation for her life.

Starting 2010 – we now sponsor a community in Asia.

More information coming shortly.

Our ITFNZ organisation is assisting in re-building a village in Papua New Guinea.

We donated our hall for use for the PNG fundraisers.

-Snake : Ch’i

-Dragon : Spirit

Each technique has three main functions…

-Self Defense

-Internal Energy Cultivation

-Training the Body and Mind

Who will I be learning from?

The classes are instructed by Mr Lo who has been performing Kempo Kido Karate for at least 10 years. He learnt under Mr Gibbs and wants to give back to the community that supported him in his teenage years.

Welcome!

This year has been a great success! Tamaki Mount Wellington has done extremely well in many areas including black belt grading (with Ms Chanthie Thach being promoted to 3rd Dan), coloured belt gradings and various tournaments (Auckland Regionals and Peewee InterClub).  At the Auckland Regionals, Tamaki placed 4th overall – taking out three of the Best Overall Titles: Best Overall Blue-belt (Bjarne Morris), Best Overall Yellow-belt (Mervin Tibay) and Best Overall White-belt (Jasmine-Lei Thach). We would like to commend everyone for their hard work and dedication this year.  We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and look forward to seeing everyone again next year!

New Structure – Kids Class

Ms Thu Thach and Ms Chanthie Thach have taken back the role of Head Instructors of the Kids Class, alongside Assistant Instructors Mr Bjarne Morris and Mr Simone Lo. Peewee Class has officially ceased until further notice.

Coloured Belt Grading & Peewee Grading

Well done to all those students who graded at the last coloured belt grading for the year (Tues Nov 17th). A great achievement by all! The date set for the Peewee Grading is Thurs Dec 3rd starting at 6pm – Good luck to all our peewees!!

Panmure Community Christmas Parade & Festival – Sat Dec 5th 11am

We have been invited to walk in the Christmas Parade (11am – 12pm) after being recognised from our article in the local newspaper.  It will be an exciting event and we encourage everyone to attend! We will be doing a demonstration so if anyone has any great ideas, please let the Instructors know!

End of the Year Function – Mission Bay – Sat Dec 5th 12:30pm onwards

We will be having a get together after the Parade, to kick a few balls around, go for a swim at the beach and celebrate with a shared BBQ. Children aged 13 years and under will require an accompanying adult for supervision.

Last day of training, Photos & Prize-giving – Mon Dec 14th 6pm onwards

It is that time of the year again where we acknowledge members of the Academy, unwind and have a big feed.  Nominations for the Adult and Kids Class awards (Best Attendance, Best Overall Student, Best Tenets and Most Improved Student) will be out next week!

Volunteers

We need volunteers to help us organise the Panmure Christmas Parade, End of the Year Function and Prize-giving.  This is open to everyone – students and parents, to help with food, transportation etc.  We need as many hands as possible, please let us know if you are interested!
