Based in the heart of Mt Wellington, Tamaki Taekwon-Do Club was formed late in 2005 by the current and enthusiastic Co-Head Instructors - Ms Thu Nguyen (nee Thach) (IV Degree) and Ms Chanthie Thach (III Degree). We started with a successful holiday programme over the December and January period and this was followed by the formal opening of the Club in early 2006.
We initially trained at Sylvia Park School then relocated in 2007 to our own full time and well-equipped training gym at the Mt Wellington Rugby Football Club in Hamlin Park (behind the Countdown). Later that year, we became an incorporated society.
Our Club has grown so fast over the last few years and with the addition and development of senior members, we have become more established. We regularly take part in gradings, seminars, courses and tournaments which are provided by our National Organisation, International Taekwon-Do Foundation of NZ.
In May 2009, we re-branded our Club to Tamaki Mt Wellington Taekwon-Do Academy. In 2012 – we have opened more classes to accomodate the growing needs of our students as well as developing more Academy Instructors and Assistants to provide a well supported teaching environment.
